Rep. William Jefferson (D-LA) is under federal investigation for taking bribes, campaign contributions and kickbacks from a company seeking his help in landing a contract in Nigeria. The sordid tale includes $90,000 in cash found in Jefferson's freezer during a FBI raid of his Louisiana home, and a video tape of him receiving $100,000 in cash from a government informant.

Jefferson has brought disgrace on his office and the institution of Congress. It's his right to vigorously defend himself, but his conduct has no place in the people's House. It's time for him to resign.
