I support the Campaign for New York Future's goal to create a greener, more sustainable New York that is an even better place to live and work.  I want to ensure a higher quality of life for future generations of New Yorkers, making NYC the model for cities in the 21st century.

Specifically, I support these PlaNYC initiatives to clean up NYC's air and water, improve open spaces, and reduce energy use:

Air Quality
By reducing vehicle emissions, promoting the use of clean fuels, and planting trees throughout the city, New York can have the cleanest air of any major city in the nation.

Water Quality
To open more of our waterways to recreation, PlaNYC calls for completing necessary capital improvements, protecting upstate watersheds, encouraging water conservation, and expanding sewage treatment capabilities.

Brownfields
New York's 7,600 acres of contaminated land - or brownfields - need to be cleaned up, so they can be put to productive use.  PlaNYC will establish efficient cleanup guidelines and provide support for communities, agencies, and developers to revitalize these brownfields.

Energy
New York needs cleaner, more reliable power while still reducing greenhouse gas emissions.  PlaNYC calls for replacing the city's aging power supply with clean efficient capacity, reducing energy consumption and ensuring better planning in the future.

Parks & Open Spaces
By building more recreational facilities, transforming undeveloped sites into green spaces, and making sure every community has a public plaza, we can improve New York's environment and guarantee that all New Yorkers live near a park by 2030.

Transportation
With a million more New Yorkers on the way, PlaNYC proposes greatly expanding public transit access to underserved areas, as well as managing congested roads more efficiently.

Climate Change
Together, all PlaNYC initiatives will help reduce the city's carbon footprint and make it a leader in the fight to curb global warming. The plan also calls for a task force focused on protecting vital infrastructure, as well as a strategic planning process targeted to adapting to climate change.
