The Defense Department is considering conducting a weapons test near Bedford, IN next year to bolster the U.S.’s nuclear weapons program.  The test would release a mushroom-shaped dust cloud 10,000 feet into the atmosphere and release an explosive yield equivalent to 593 tons of TNT--100 times the size of the Oklahoma City bombing.

Senators Lugar and Bayh can block the test by offering an amendment to a Pentagon funding bill that will be considered on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday, September 5.

To express opposition to the proposed test, Faithful Security is organizing a sign-on letter to Senators Lugar and Bayh from religious leaders in Indiana.  We are accepting signatures from religious leaders and clergy, including heads of congregations, faculty at religious schools, and denominational staff.  Organizations will be listed for identification purposes only.
