DefCon: Campaign to Defend The Constitution. Because The Religious Right Is Wrong
During our stem cell campaign, DefCon America ran two full page ads in the New York Times in May and June. Click here to see the ad from May. Click here to see the ad from June.

We also released our first video on YouTube featuring DefCon advisory board member and former NARAL head Kate Michelman's incredible story and by doing all we could to empower the millions of Americans for whom we are fighting. Click here to view the video.

To be sure, the fight for health and hope is not over. In the coming months, this fight will move to the states, where citizens are tired of waiting for a misguided President to do the right thing and have taken the issue into their own hands. Stay tuned to the DefCon Blog for updates.

Educators: Voice your opposition to the "Creation Museum"
This Memorial Day weekend, the religious right will take a bold new step in their campaign against science education in America. The creationist organization, Answers in Genesis, will open their $27 million "Creation Museum" in Petersburg, Kentucky, dedicated to promoting the falsehood that science supports the notion of a 6,000 year old Earth.

From denying the facts of evolution to lying about the known age of the universe, the "museum" represents an assault on our children’s basic understanding of fundamental scientific principles.

The Campaign to Defend the Constitution (DefCon) calls on all educators -- teachers, professors and administrators -- to take a stand against this latest attack on science education. If you are an educator, please sign the petition below to voice your opposition to the religious right's campaign of ignorance.

Full Petition Text:

As educators, we join together to express our opposition to the "Creation Museum," an institution built by Answers in Genesis (AiG) and designed to promote the falsehood that science supports the notion of a 6,000 year old Earth.

This institution is only the most recent example of the religious right's war on science education - whether in the form of anti-evolution stickers in textbooks or the promotion of intelligent design in the classroom.

In all of these cases the religious right has sought to create controversy where none exists, confusing our children and undermining our nation's commitment to scientific understanding.

As Americans, we support our fellow citizens' freedom of religion and freedom of speech, and as a private institution, AiG is free to deny the overwhelming evidence resulting from hundreds of years of scientific work.

We, however, oppose this nefarious campaign to institutionalize a lie. We urge AiG to cease their war on science and we call on educators, media, and citizens to exercise critical thinking and their own right and responsibility of free speech, and oppose AiG's false claims wherever they are promoted.
