New York STILL needs a traffic and transit solution!

After the state legislature failed to vote on congestion pricing and passed up $354 million in federal funding for immediate mass transit improvements, New Yorkers are left still facing a traffic and transit crisis.

The fact is New York still has some of the dirtiest air in the country, gridlocked streets, overcrowded buses and subways, and a million more people on the way, and these challenges aren’t going away.

Send a message to your legislators in Albany, letting them know how you feel about the failure to secure millions in federal funding, and asking them to prioritize finding a solution to New York’s traffic and transit crisis. We need to tell our legislators that this is an issue that is not going away.

I was disappointed that you failed to vote on the congestion pricing plan that was supported by Governor Patterson, the New York City Council and Traffic Congestion Mitigation Commission as well as Mayor Bloomberg. Even though New York has missed the deadline to receive $354 million in federal funding for mass transit improvements, our transportation problems are not going to go away. New York is still in the midst of a traffic and transit crisis, and now more than ever, we need a plan to improve commutes and make the city ready for the expected one million new residents moving here in the next 25 years!

Please make finding a solution to New York's traffic and transit crisis a priority.  We still need a plan that achieves real traffic reductions, raises millions to improve the public transit system most New Yorkers, especially lower income New Yorkers, depend on, cuts commute times, reduces air pollution, treats city residents across all neighborhoods and of all economic levels fairly, and puts New York on the path to leadership in the fight against global warming.

I hope you will push for strategies to combat traffic congestion and fund the buses, subways and trains that our city needs.
