We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota.

The short explanation of this alert was:

Crisis nurseries offer a first line of defense against child abuse and maltreatment by providing a safe and nurturing environment for children. Not only are parents given a break during a crisis, but they are offered resources, such as parenting classes to help prevent future crisis.

People cared for through crisis nurseries:

"I’m glad there was help for my Mom when my Dad could not work and was gone in the hospital because I was scared and my Mom had to pay lots of attention to us and answer a lot of questions to us. She did a good job but she said she had Angel help, Crisis Nursery."
~ A child who received care

"When parents do not take care of themselves they will take it out on their children.  So many adults have been raised in abusive homes; therefore, do the same to their children--unknowingly. The Crisis Nursery helped me find the tools I needed to learn a different way to parent. I don't know what I would have done without the Crisis Nursery--they have opened so many doors for me."
~A single mother of 3 special needs children

Services for children and families in crisis continue to significantly diminish across Minnesota due to lack of funding. Crisis nurseries need State funding reinstated! Urge your legislators to support crisis nurseries by passing the Grant Program for Crisis Nurseries (HF0601/SF0534)! With crisis nurseries, we can help to prevent child abuse and neglect, strengthen families and communities and reduce the need for more costly services.
