Now is the time to support clean water!
When Congress passed the Clean Water Act in 1972, it intended to establish broad protections for all waters to achieve the law's goal of restoring and maintaining the physical, chemical, and biological integrity of the nation's waters. However, since 2001, Supreme Court decisions have called into doubt these broad protections.
Developers and polluters are trying to reverse long-established protections for our streams and wetlands, endangering all of our communities. Congress must act now to end the confusion over which waterways are protected and reaffirm the broad scope of the Clean Water Act that has existed for more than three decades. The House should pass a strong bill quickly to prevent the loss of more water bodies.
