Palm oil plantations cause deforestation and climate change, threaten the lives of endangered species, and compromise the health and well-being of local people.

By purchasing irresponsibly sourced palm oil, General Mills is violating their own stated corporate social responsibility policy to "be one of the most environmentally sustainable food companies in the world." Until they stop purchasing Cargill's palm oil, General Mills is supporting the destruction of the world's last great tropical forests and forest communities.

Palm oil plantations destroy rainforests in Indonesia, Malaysia and Papua New Guinea which threatens the health and wellbeing of the people living there, as well as highly endangered species including Sumatran tigers, Sumatran elephants and orangutans. The burning and clearing of these forests emit greenhouse gasses, which contribute to global warming.

General Mills can play a critical role in transforming the global palm oil market by taking action here in the U.S. Please take strong action to ensure that your palm oil supply does not contain rainforest destruction.
