At a hearing in Sacramento this week, the Environmental Protection Agency heard testimony to help it decide whether to allow California's groundbreaking legislation to proceed - a decision that will have consequences for all states seeking to enact similar laws.

America needs the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers to stop blocking states' efforts to curb global warming and safeguard the health of my children, the environment, and the future of our planet. If we do nothing to stop global warming, our coastal cities will be underwater, our water supply will be compromised, our air will become even more difficult to breathe, and our beautiful environment will be destroyed.

The Auto Alliance must stop fighting California's efforts to regulate tailpipe global warming pollution, especially since a third of all U.S. global warming pollution comes from vehicles this is vital for the fate of our planet. With eleven other states adopting California's rules and six more considering them, this is the most significant cut in greenhouse gas emissions currently being enacted in the United States.  Please don't block these efforts to clean up more than 40 percent of new vehicles sold in the United States.

It is time for the auto industry to stop saying what it can't do to curb global warming pollution and get on board with the businesses, governments and individuals who have shifted into high gear to secure our planet, our national security, and our children's future. I urge the Auto Alliance to stop blocking progress on global warming and start letting us, the people of the United States, make decisions that affect the health of our families and communities.
