I strongly support your decision to initiate a veto process to block the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from constructing the Yazoo Pumps project.

Located just 40 miles northwest of Jackson, Mississippi, the Yazoo Pumps would be one of the most notorious wetlands drainage projects in U.S. history.

Vetoing the Pumps will save up to 200,000 acres of wetlands, preserve some of the best wildlife habitat in the heart of the Mississippi River Flyway, keep several wildlife refuges and national forests healthy and save taxpayers more than $220 million!

The Yazoo Pumps project violates Section 404 of the Clean Water Act because of the magnitude and severity of its environmental impacts.

The project will drain and damage an area of wetlands the size of New York City--all five boroughs. Many of these wetlands are in the heart of the Mississippi River Flyway--a critical migration route for 20 percent of the nation's duck populations as well as other species of migratory birds.

I understand that some special interests are still fighting to build this project that was first dreamt up almost 70 years ago. I urge the EPA to resist any and all political pressure and stay on course to complete the veto of the Yazoo Pumps Project.
