However, we are in a position to prepare and protect America if we act now.

America needs your help!

Our current system of government and non-profit disaster relief coupled with private insurance leaves too many people unprotected and unable to rebuild their lives following a catastrophe. Tell your elected officials that the current system just won’t do!

My thoughts to protect America

Dear [ Decision Maker ],

America has been ravaged by the fury of nature, from hurricanes to earthquakes, and I am beginning to question just how prepared we are for the next catastrophe.

I've read reports that eight out of the 11 largest U.S. catastrophes have happened in the last four years. Each time, we seem less and less prepared to respond to the human and financial costs in a prompt and caring manner.

I visited www.protectingamerica.org and was happy to learn that other people share my concern.

The House of Representatives passed the Homeowners' Defense Act of 2007 by a 258-155 margin. This is the first time that a national political party has even addressed America's preparedness for and protection from catastrophe. Now is the time for Senate to take action, before the next catastrophe strikes.

I am writing to you to find out if you agree with me that our nation is not adequately protected, and to urge you to correct this situation.
