The short explanation of this alert was:
We need your help to make education funding a priority in the U.S. Congress!
The Senate Appropriations Committee is preparing to vote on federal appropriations for the upcoming fiscal year (FY 07). Despite evidence that the public wants better education funding, the Senate's pending legislation provides no increases for the nation's major education laws – No Child Left Behind and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. No increases in the federal funding for students with disabilities and disadvantaged students served by Title I puts the education of these vulnerable students in reverse. Enrollment continues to climb each year – some 6.8 million students are now receiving special education services under IDEA and 16.5 million school children are served by Title I. Yet Congress is providing no increases to even offset the growth in enrollment.
Ask your Senators to make good on their promise to provide adequate funds for states to implement the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and No Child Left Behind.
Use this pre-formatted letter, adapt with your personal comments, and send it to your Senators today.
