In a stunning defeat, Tom DeLay reversed himself on the DeLay Rule and the Republicans in Congress revoked it. Thousands of people had contacted their members of Congress on this issue, and they buckled under the pressure.
Three things happened:
1. Members of Congress heard from you. One member, Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R-AZ) boiled it down to two words: "Constituents reacted."
2. DeLay didn't have the votes, and Democrats were emboldened. Everyone knew it because we tracked it at our blog, the Daily DeLay.
3. DeLay is fast becoming an ethical albatross for the Republican majority.
