Hurricane season is upon us, and I'm writing to find out where you stand on the establishment of a national catastrophe fund. I urge you to consider legislation to create a comprehensive national catastrophe plan that includes a federal insurance backstop, so that when the unthinkable happens, our families will get the help they need.

President Obama, and Republicans and Democrats from across the country, supports this legislation that will help make homeowners insurance available and affordable and reduce homeowners' insurance premiums by $10 billion per year or more.

Equally important, it will also help improve preparedness and establish comprehensive mitigation, education and prevention programs and augment first responder programs, all of which will help minimize damage, speed recovery and save lives.
