America needs your help!

Our current system of government and non-profit disaster relief coupled with private insurance leaves too many people unprotected and unable to rebuild their lives following a catastrophe. The Homeowners’ Defense Act – HR2555 – is the solution we need to prepare, rebuild and recover.

Tell the House Financial Services subcommittee on Housing and Community Opportunity and the Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance, and Government Sponsored Enterprises that the current system just won’t do!

I am writing to urge your support for HR 2555 - the Homeowners' Defense Act - and to report the bill from committee as soon as possible after the hearing on March 10.

America has been ravaged by the fury of nature, from hurricanes to earthquakes; there are serious questions about how prepared America is for the next catastrophe. The recent earthquakes in Haiti and Chile are stark reminders of our own vulnerability.

The previous bill, the Homeowner's Defense Act of 2007 (HR 3355), passed the House of Representatives by an overwhelming bipartisan vote of 258-155. Like so many Americans, I hope that HR 2555 can be brought before the House for a full vote before the next catastrophe strikes.

I hope you agree with me that our nation is not adequately protected, and to urge you to take action as soon as possible.
