Why do I have to provide my mailing address for the Action Center?
Your mailing address is used to match you with the legislators in whose district you reside. Many times, we will request CSPF members who are constituents of targeted legislators to communicate with that elected official, as his or her vote could be the deciding one. In that case, legislators are more likely to respond to contacts from people within their district than from individuals who are not constituents.

What does the Foundation do with my personal information?
The Foundation respects our members’ privacy.  As described above, the mailing address you provide to the Action Center is used only for the purpose of matching you to your elected officials. Additional contact information may be used to contact you for special advocacy requests that need your assistance. 

Why is the Foundation tracking all the alerts I’ve responded to?
Knowing which members frequently respond to action alerts helps the Foundation identify those members who might be willing to participate in other advocacy efforts, such as Park Advocacy Day in Sacramento or district meetings with legislators. Using the online Action Center is a great way to get thousands of CSPF members involved in making their voices heard, but it is only one of the Foundation’s many strategies to gain policymaker support for issues affecting state parks. 

How does the Foundation decide on the issues that will be put before members to take action?
Foundation staff track a wide variety of policy issues related to state parks and identify those that would benefit from members of the public weighing in and expressing their opinions. Issues that are particularly contentious or instances where legislators need to hear from their constituents to help determine the outcome of a bill are likely to be the subjects of action alerts sent to members.
