Another Park Advocacy Day Success!
On March 26, 155 park advocates spent the day in Sacramento for the Fifth Annual Park Advocacy Day. Once again, it was a rousing success! Advocates from across the state were part of the annual event and visited almost all of the 120 legislative offices. It was a crowded day with hundreds of other advocates in the halls of the Capitol, but PAD attendees were tenacious in getting our messages across.

Assemblymembers Wilmer Amina Carter and Jared Huffman speak out for park protection at the Park Advocacy Day press conference. |
Carrying a full agenda of park protection messages, advocates called for legislators' support for the package of park protection bills that have been introduced this year, as well as support for restoring funding for deferred maintenance needs, helping fund the creation of local park opportunities in California neighborhoods, and increase park access in the Central Valley.
In particular, our advocates highlighted the ongoing threats of developments and road projects to Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park, San Onofre State Beach, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, Humboldt Lagoons State Park, Patrick's Point State Park, Harry Merlo State Recreation Area.
To cap off the night, we were thrilled to award our annual Legacy Awards to Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata (D-Oakland) and Assemblymember Pedro Nava (D-Santa Barbara) for their hard work in support of funding and protecting our state parks.
