Tell your Representative today: Stand Firm! Don’t Sign HR2194!

Dear Friend of Brit Tzedek,

Hawkish members of Congress are acting to undermine President Obama's policy of a return to serious, high-level U.S. diplomacy in the Middle East, by attempting to weaken his efforts to achieve genuine engagement with Iran through House Resolution 2194, which calls for an amendment to the Iran Sanctions Act of 1996, "to enhance United States diplomatic efforts with respect to Iran by expanding economic sanctions against Iran."

Tell your Representative today to support President Obama:  Stand firm, and don't sign onto HR 2194!

The American-Iranian relationship is one of deep significance to American Jews who seek peace and security for Israel, as Iran has long been a direct backer of many Arab rejectionists, has acted to undermine past Israeli-Palestinian peace efforts, and is seeking to expand its nuclear capacities. To the extent that the American government is able to engage successfully with Iran, all of these threats to Israel will be lessened and the position of the Jewish State made stronger.

The U.S. foreign policy of isolation, sanctions, and saber-rattling has failed to subdue Iran's nuclear ambitions, and has cost the U.S. and the international community valuable time during which Iran's nuclear program has moved forward.

The Obama administration is trying a fresh approach that does not involve preconditions, artificial timelines or additional sanctions to the ones already in place that restrict Iranian financial and commercial activity worldwide at this time. This approach is in keeping with the President's policies regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and if successful, would serve to significantly bolster Israeli security and advance the likelihood of an end to the conflict. The administration's approach to Iran merits our support.

Do not allow members of Congress to thwart the President's diplomatic efforts with Iran with artificial restrictions.  Please take 60 seconds to tell your Representative today that the  pro-Israel/pro-peace community in his district stands behind him in NOT signing onto HR 2194.

Subject: Stand Firm:  Do not sign onto HR2194

Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here],

As a Jewish-American pro-Israel/pro-peace constituent, I am writing to applaud your decision NOT to sign onto HR 2194, and ask you to resist any pressure to reverse your decision.  For the first time in decades, we have a President who is willing to explore alternative diplomatic strategies in engaging Iran, action that is very important not only to the future of American-Iranian relations, but to Israeli interests as well. Congress must act to support him in these efforts.

President Obama must be given flexibility to pursue peace with Iran, representing Israel's best chance for achieving enduring peace and security.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]
