 Dear Friend of Brit Tzedek,
I believe we are at a singular moment in the history of our
issue and our organization. We have built a strong and active
grassroots movement over the past seven years, and for the first
time we have a President who has already acted decisively and
clearly in declaring U.S. opposition to all settlement activity,
making clear his intention not to back down from this position,
and at the same time exacting a publicly stated commitment from
P.M. Netanyahu to a two-state solution. The Israeli government
knows it is on notice and is painfully trying to both comply and
not comply with at least some of what the U.S. administration is
demanding.
There are those in the organized Jewish community already
crying 'foul' and organizing to oppose the President's policies,
even though they are on record as supporting a two-state
solution and a settlement freeze by endorsing the Road Map.
On the other side, Brit Tzedek's leadership has been
prescient in recognizing months ago that this moment would come
sooner rather than later. The new campaign, "We've Got Your
Back, Mr. President," is exactly what I'd like to say to
President Obama. Wouldn't you?
Help Brit Tzedek keep the momentum of
this campaign going, especially over the next several months,
which could be critical if the President holds firm and Israel
has no choice but to abandon the settlement enterprise. Within
Israel and within the American Jewish community the settler
movement and their supporters will be active in their opposition
to the President. We can expect President Obama to stand firm on
his administration's demand for a halt to all settlement
activity. We can expect the usual voices within the Jewish
community to organize against him. Their clout is not to be
underestimated. Ours should not be either. Please donate to help us support this
campaign.
More than ever, the peace makers in Israel and the Obama
administration need organized, effective support from the
American Jewish community.
Please do your part, in whatever measure you can. There is no
gift too small to count. Donate now.
Tzedek v'shalom,
