Dear Friend of Brit Tzedek, I believe that we are at a
real turning point for peace.
With a grassroots organizer in the White House, delivered by
the power of millions of ordinary Americans organizing for real
change, these are heady days for grassroots empowerment. And to
top it off, it's now Passover, the celebration of our liberation
from slavery engineered by that brilliant community organizer,
Moses.
For the first time in Brit Tzedek's history, we have
a President and Congress poised to take bold action toward
brokering Israeli-Palestinian peace.
Brit Tzedek's job now is to support and
encourage President Obama's initiatives by mobilizing the
powerful voice of large numbers of American
Jews. We've changed the
dialogue among American Jews about what it means to support
Israel's long-term interest, we've achieved a string a victories
on Capitol Hill in the last few months, and we have
never been as powerful as we are right now.
During the Gaza War Brit Tzedek convened community forums
nationwide, creating a space for Jews to critically reflect on
the situation. We provided pivotal leadership for our
1600-strong rabbinic network with a resource bank of sermons and
activity ideas to open up the conversation on the war within
synagogues.
That's what Brit Tzedek's work has always been about:
organizing our powerful collective voices to make change --
within our Jewish communities and in the halls of
government.
- We now literally have a seat at the table -- whenever the
Obama Administration speaks with Jewish leaders, Brit Tzedek is
on the guest list. We're using our invitation strategically, to
make it clear that a large Jewish constituency supports
aggressive diplomacy.
- Our organizing for a high-level Special Envoy paid off, as
President Obama appointed Senator George Mitchell just two days
after assuming office.
- When Members of Congress sponsored initiatives calling for
humanitarian aid to Gaza and supporting meaningful diplomacy by
Special Envoy Mitchell and Secretary of State Clinton, Brit
Tzedek harnessed the power of our grassroots base to convince
large numbers of representatives and senators to sign
on.
- When key Congressional leaders spoke out against Israeli
settlements and the urgent need for Gaza reconstruction, Brit
Tzedek organized their constituents to thank them for their acts
of courage.
This much is certain: we cannot afford to lose the
momentum we have achieved over these past few months.
We play a critical role in building Jewish support for the
Administration's peace efforts and countering the forces arrayed
against them.
Please help us with as generous a contribution as you
possibly can.
The power of our voices can truly make a difference. We have
seen it over the past 6 years, and without doubt we have seen it
over the past few months.
With your continued support, we can make this year
the turning point for peace.
Years from now, I want us all to be able to look our children
and grandchildren in the eye and say to them: "In my generation,
I acted to bring Israel out of its wars and into peace."
Chag Pesach Sameach - A Happy and Joyous Passover to each of
you,

Steve Masters President
