Thank YOUR Senators for cosponsoring SRes321 on Israeli-Palestinian peace

Senators Feinstein and Lugar have reintroduced their important Senate resolution, now officially S.Res.321, calling for active U.S. engagement to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. As President Bush and Secretary Rice move forward with the international peace meeting scheduled for November, it is more important than ever that the Senate send a strong message supporting Israeli-Palestinian peace.  Contact your senators today!

Subject: Thank you for cosponsoring S.Res.321 on Israeli-Palestinian peace

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

As an American Jew, I write to thank you for cosponsoring S.Res.321, the Feinstein/Lugar resolution on Israeli-Palestinian peace.

S.Res.321 reaffirms the Senate's commitment to a two-state solution and to Israel's security, and denounces the use of violence and terror. It calls on Hamas to recognize Israel's right to exist, renounce terror, and accept past agreements with Israel. It further calls on President Bush to make a two-state solution a "top priority," urges him to appoint a Special Envoy for Middle East Peace, and welcomes the Arab League Peace Initiative.

The resolution has already garnered support from over one third of the Senate. As President Bush and Secretary Rice move forward with the international peace meeting scheduled for November, it is more important than ever that the Senate send a strong message supporting Israeli-Palestinian peace.

Thank you for being a cosponsor of S.Res.321!

Sincerely,

Background Information

Over the summer Brit Tzedek made a major push for cosponsors on a powerful pro-peace, pro-Israel resolution introduced by Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Richard Lugar (R-IN), now officially reintroduced as S.Res.321.  Thanks to your advocacy, the resolution garnered 37, cosponsors – over one third of the Senate – and came inches away from passing before the August recess.  It only failed to pass because two senators put a secret hold on the bill at the last minute.  By increasing the number of cosponsors on S.Res.321, we can demonstrate the widespread support for this resolution and try to move it through.

The Feinstein/Lugar resolution represents a sharp departure from the usual language in resolutions about Israel and the Palestinians and more closely echoes the pro-peace, pro-Israel positions shared by Brit Tzedek and the vast majority of American Jews. It calls on President Bush to make a two-state solution a “top priority,” urges him to appoint a Special Envoy for Middle East Peace, and welcomes the Arab League Peace Initiative.

If your senator has already cosponsored, please thank them!

We need as many cosponsors as possible on this bill to push it forward. Please urge your Senators to cosponsor S.Res.321 today!
