When you're dealing with a crisis -- a car accident, a
burglary, a house fire, or anything else -- the last thing you
want to worry about is whether
your insurance company will be there for you. You
pay your premiums, and you expect your insurance company
to keep their promises.
Unfortunately, thousands of Washington residents file
complaints with the Insurance Commissioner every year
because their legitimate claims have been unfairly
delayed or denied. That's unacceptable.
Referendum 67 simply holds insurance companies more accountable
to consumers by requiring that they pay our legitimate
claims in a reasonable and timely manner. Insurance
companies that are already acting responsibly have
absolutely nothing to fear from R-67 -- but it's time for
the bad apples to clean up their act.
That's why Gov. Chris Gregoire endorses Approve R-67 and
sends the following message to voters in Washington
State:
"I will vote to Approve Referendum 67. R-67 is about
protecting consumers from being unreasonably denied claims by
insurance companies. Insurance companies
that do not unreasonably deny claims shouldn't be concerned
about the law. Washingtonians deserve the kind of protection
given by R-67."

The main legislation underlying R-67 was already overwhelmingly
passed by both the State
House and Senate, and Governor Gregoire signed it into
law earlier this year -- and now we as voters are being asked to
uphold this
law.
A broad coalition of elected officials and organizations
-- representing more than 1.8 million Washington residents --
are all joining together to urge voters to Approve
R-67. Governor Gregoire stands with Insurance Commissioner
Mike Kreidler, Congressman Jay Inslee, King County
Executive Ron Sims, Pierce County Executive John Ladenburg,
Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon, Seattle Mayor
Greg Nickels, House Speaker Frank Chopp, and Senate
Majority Leader Lisa Brown, among many others, in urging
you to Approve 67. The AARP, the Washington State Council of
Firefighters,
Washington Fraternal Order of Police, SEIU, AFSCME,
AFL-CIO, the Washington Education Association, and many
other organizations are joining us as well.
What's more, newspapers across Washington -- at least 19 at
last count, from all corners of the state -- have all come out
to urge their readers to vote to
Approve R-67 as well. The Seattle Times says R-67 helps
in "restoring the balance... of power between an insurance
company and a customer." The Seattle
Post-Intelligencer calls Referendum 67 "a consumer
tool," saying "the more we learn about it, the more we
favor a yes
vote on R-67," while the Longview Daily News says
that "voters should reject insurers' scare
tactics." The Tacoma News Tribune, Everett
Herald, Wenatchee
World, Yakima Herald, Walla Walla
Union-Bulletin, The Columbian, and The
Olympian have all
endorsed the Approve 67 campaign as well.
Please vote to Approve R-67, sign the Approve 67 online petition, and
forward this email to every Washington
voter you know!
It's time for all insurance companies to treat us fairly.
Please join us in voting to Approve R-67.
Sincerely,
Allison Branham
