On September 18, the Health Resources
Services Administration (HRSA) announced that 15 existing Ryan White Part D
(Title IV) programs will receive one-time expansion grants for
their programs. The awards, totaling $1 million, were
distributed through a competitive process to existing
grantees. According to the grant guidance, special
attention was given to the expansion of dental care, electronic
medical records and data collection. Congratulations to
those who received an award.
With two days remaining before the start of FY 2008,
President Bush signed into law a continuing resolution (CR) (HJ Res 52) on September 29 to continue funding
government agencies at their current levels through November
16.
Momentum for a domestic HIV/AIDS strategy is growing.
On October 15, AIDS Alliance, along with several national AIDS
organizations, released "AIDS in America," a call to the Presidential
candidates to focus on the domestic HIV/AIDS epidemic.
Representatives Elliot Engel (D-NY) and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen
(R-FL) joined Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) in reintroducing the
Early Treatment for HIV/AIDS Act (ETHA, HR 3326) on August 2. ETHA was reintroduced in the Senate on March
13 by Senators Gordon Smith (R-OR) and Hillary Rodham Clinton
(D-NY).
